SACHIN RETIRES,GETS BHARAT RATNA.

Sachin Tendulkar is a good cricketer, good sportsman,a role model for
budding sportspersons. Government has awarded him the country's highest
award within hours of his retirement. One wonders about the speed at which
the government acted in awarding Bharat Ratna, the highest Award. Neither
the Sports Ministry nor the BCCI has recommended Sachin's name for Bharat
Ratna. It is reported that the sports ministry has recommended Dhyan Chand's
name for this coveted award in 2012 and more than 82 members of Parliament
have also recommended his name in 2011, but the government has ignored these
recommendations.

Major Dhyan Chand   should have been the first sportsman to get the
Bharat Ratna after the rules were amended. He played hockey in a different
era but that does not take away his achievements. He played in Three olympics
viz.Amsterdam (1928),Los Angeles(1932) & Berlin (1936) and India won Gold
in all the three Olympics.29th August,Dhyan Chand's birthday is celebrated as
National Sports day in the country. He scored over 1000 goals in his career. The
government should not take cognizant of the media hype surrounding the game
of cricket and the players. There are many other sports persons who brought laurels
to the country like Sachin. To name a few, P.T.Usha,Viswanathan Anand,Prakash
Padukone, & Abhinav Bindra who brought Olympic Gold for the country after
many decades of Gold medal drought.

       CONGRATULATIONS-INDIAN WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM.

Indian Women's Hockey team won Bronze Medal in the Junior women's
World Cup Hockey Tournament In Germany. This will  give tremendous
boost for the game of Hockey and Women's Hockey in particular.

Vice president of India Mr.Ansari congratulated the Indian Cricket team
for winning the Champions trophy in the Rajya Sabha..It is a good
gesture, but he should have congratulated the Junior women's  Hockey
team also.Afterall, only 8 countries participated in the Champions
Trophy in Cricket, but in the Junior Hockey World Cup for women,
16 countries participated in which the team won the bronze medal.
Whenever, our cricket team win any tournament, many leaders
rush to congratulate the team, but no leader has congratulated the
junior women's Hockey team for bringing glory to the country.
Will this attitude change?.

EDITORIAL

                                                          BHARAT RATNA TO DHYANCHAND.

The decision to award Bharat Ratna to Dhyan Chand  is a  right decision.
There may be some views that Sachin Tendulkar deserves more than
Dhyan Chand. There is no comparison between Sachin and Dhyan Chand
as they played different games ,in different times.Dhyan Chand played in
three Olympics and won three gold medals for the country and scored  more
than 400 goals in International Career. Astro Turf in Indian Gymkhana Club
in London has been named after Indian Hockey wizard,Dhyan Chand. After
India played its first match in 1936 Olympics,Dhyan Chand's magical
stickwork drew crowds from other venues to the Hockey field.A German
newspaper carried a banner headline,"The Olympic Complex now has a
magic show too".The next day there were posters all over Berlin-Visit the
Hockey stadium to watch the Indian magician Dhyan Chand in action.
Residents of Vienna,Austria, honoured him by setting up a statue of him
with four hands and four sticks  depicting his control and mastery over
the ball.

Once, while playing a hockey game,Major Dhyan Chand was not able to score
a goal against the opposition team inspite of several misses. He went to the
referee and wanted him to check the goal post measurement.Surprisingly,it
was found not upto the official width as per international rules.
This is Dhyan Chand for you.

DEVIL'S ADVOCATE.

Media wants BCCI President Mr.N.Srinivasan to step down but the working group
of BCCI decides that Mr.Srinivasan steps aside till the probe is completed.

Mr.Srinivasan,Vice chairman,India Cements,a company that owns the IPL Franchise
Chennai Super kings. The owner according to BCCI & IPL as per the accreditation
given is Mr.Gurunath Meiyappan, son in law of Mr.N.Srinivasan.Mr.Meiyappan is
being probed by Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in spot fixing scam along
with another bookie. The irony is till now no player of CSK is caught for
spot fixing but three players of Rajasthan Royals another IPL Franchise  were
caught for their alleged involvement. The probe is on and the matter is sub judice.

As CSK owner Mr.Meiyappan is being probed by Delhi police, there is hue and cry
that the President of BCCI Mr.N.Srinivasan should resign on moral grounds.
As morality is personal, and nobody can be compelled to resign,Mr.N.Srinivasan
refuses to resign as he feels that he has done no wrong and he is an elected
President.Morality is a rare commodity  in our country either in politics or in
all positions  in the society. We are not late Mr.Lal Bahadur Shastri, who was
once the railway minister and he resigned when a train accident took place in
Ariyalur in Madras state then. Moral grounds & owning Moral responssibility
is used loosely and frequently in our country without serving the purpose.
Many people should have resigned on moral grounds who are in high places
accepting moral responssibility, but how  many  have  done it  in last few  decades is the moot question ?.

INDIAN CRICKET- WHERE IS IT GOING? -Is BCCI a Club of the Elite?.

Indian cricket is in the cross roads now.The glorious time of " you scratch my back,
I will scratch your back" is going to be over. This is not only the question of
Mr.N.Srinivasan, President,BCCI resigning on properiety due to his son-in -law
Mr.Gurunathan Meiyappan is alleged to have been involved in betting scam, but also the steps  BCCI takes to stem the rot which has set in. What has happened to so called legends of cricket and where are they?. Is the money they get makes them keep quite or they have no
opinion of their own?.In that case they are no legends, but men of clay.Mr.Sharad Pawar
former Chief of ICC & former President of  BCCI  says that this would not have happened
if he was the Chief of BCCI. He should spell out clearly what he would have done then
and what he will do now to restore the credibility of the game?.His suggestion to handover
the matter to Ministry of Home affairs for a probe is a welcome move.

This is the time to scrap IPL to save the game of cricket which was the gentleman's game
till the arrival of IPL.The game of cricket and the people who administer the game of
cricket including the so called legends of cricket are silenced by the money the IPL
generate and are not bothered about the common people who are the backbone of
cricket. The moot question is "Is the BCCI the private club of the elite"?.

INDIAN HOCKEY FEDERATION (IHF) VS HOCKEY INDIA.

Indian Hockey federation (IHF) was formed in 1925 to control and regulate the game of
Hockey in India. It joined the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in 1927. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) was formed in 1927. That means the Indian Hockey Federation
is in existence even before the formation of IOA.

On 28th April,2008 ,the IOA passed resolution suspending the governing council of the
IHF and formed an adhoc committee to administer the affairs of the IHF. Now,the question
arises what prompted IOA to supercede the IHF?. Now,the International Hockey federation
(FIH) in their 41st Statutory Congress held at the Hilton Hotel Los Angeles on November,2008
unanimously approved the transfer of membership from IHF to  Hockey India even before it was legally born. The Hockey India was registered under the Societies Registration Act,1860 on
May,20,2009 vide registration number 65668,2009. Mr.S.M.Aslam Khan,Ms.Vidya Stokes & Ms.Amrit Bose attended the meeting of FIH  from India. The moot question is were they representing the IHF or Hockey India(Which was not born then)?.

If these things happen, one wonders the fate of the sports in India.

WHY SHOULD BCCI RESIST WADA?
ICC has not made it  mandatory for all its members to comply with the
WADA code. But it should not be taken as a cover for resisting WADA code
and its whereabouts clause. When all the games under Olympic Charter follow
the code, one wonders why ICC and BCCI should not follow the WADA code.We
Understand that English cricket is testing their players regularly.Even the leading
athletes, tennis players and others are following the WADA code.It is time cricket
also follow the code to keep the so called gentleman game  clean and free from
dope.Even some of the top cricketers voiced their concern regarding their privacy
if they follow the WADA code but this is not convincing.
